Healthy Eating Habits: Midweek Farmers Market Haul; Hutto and Leander Texas

We had a great time shopping at the Hutto farmers market. They are open on Wednesdays 3pm – 7pm. It’s located on East street in downtown.
There weren’t too many vendors this time of year, but the vendors that were there had amazing veggies. There was a jewelry vendor, an Italian Ice truck, and some other merch sellers there as well.
We loaded up on some yummy vegetables to get us through the end of the week.
After we left Hutto, we headed over to Leander, Texas to a tiny farm right in the heart of town called Isle Acre Farms. There we picked up some radish micro greens AND MOST IMPORTANTLY…Indigo Starburst Cherry Tomatoes. Y’all! Those bad boys are amazing! Best tasting tomato ever!!!
Over all, it was a great day of gathering produce from the local farmers markets!
Until next time…have a blessed day!

Storm Warning Workout: When A 45 Minute Walk Becomes An Ab Crunch Exercise Session; Family Fitness

So…last night we started our afternoon walk like we always do, but it didn’t take long for things to take a turn for the worse.
Out of the North came a whole bunch of dark clouds, and that was quickly followed by some crazy winds…and then of course rain.
We are at the point in our fitness journey where we can’t stand to miss a workout. So…wanting to get a full 45 minutes worth of exercise in, we finished up our workout session with some an work.
Junior (our youngest) was off work, so she joined us for 22 minutes of crunches.
Gotta get that 45 minutes a day in y’all!#fitnessgoals #healthylifestyle #mentalshift

Healthy Lifestyle Update: Weigh In Day; Ear Tickler Gone; Feel Good Versus Look Good

It’s time to document our weight loss (or weight gain)!
As we lose weight, we’re starting to see lose skin. I’m totally fine with it. I plan on “toning up” and bulking up (muscle) once I hit my goal. So I expect most of the “flabby skin” will tighten up.
Still keeping up with most of my 75 Hard habits! Water intake, diet (obviously), exercise (not quite as much), no alcohol (stuff is high in calories y’all), reading books (not everyday), and no cheating!!!
We are loving our healthy habits! Our new life of farmers markets, good food, and encouraging others is a blessing!
Until our next video…have a blessed day!

Farmers Market Fun (9-3-22)

Farmers market are one of the most fun things about our new health centered lifestyle. Not only do they have freshly grown fruits and vegetables straight from the garden and locally sourced beef, pork, and chicken…they have tons of other stuff too.
From lavender tea to fresh hot tamales, they’ve got it! From CBD oil to locally sourced coffee, they’ve got it. From local honey straight from the beehive to freshly baked breads, cookies, and muffins, they’ve got it!
The farmers market we visited today (the Wolf Ranch Saturday FM in Georgetown, Texas) had fresh mini donuts at one vendor’s stand and straight outta the pan dumplings at another stand. It was great.
There’s also jewelry, cutlery, dog snacks, jerky (one of my favorite stands) , and of course…snow cones (or shaved ice as the kids call it today).
We love our trips to the farmers markets and produce stands in and around our home. You never know what yummy treats or gadgets you’ll find for sale there.
We hope to see y’all out and about at the farmers markets this week! If you see us…give us a holler!
Until the next video…have a blessed day!

Healthy Eating Hack: The Awesomeness Of Cheerios (quite possibly the best snack I ever ate)!

So…you’re craving* something sweet…BUT…you don’t want the sugar or the calories. Here is an easy and healthy alternative. Chocolate Cheerios (or any generic version of Chocolate Cheerios) AND / OR Cinnamon Cheerios. You can either have a cup of them (140 calories) in a half cup of Almond milk (we prefer Blue Diamond’s Almond Breeze Unsweet Vanilla Almond Milk with 30 calories/cup) for around 155 calories…OR…eat a cup of them by themselves as a handy-dandy easy-peasy snack for around 140 calories (or munch on a half cup for around 70 calories). Either way, you appease your sweet tooth and you maintain a healthy diet.

Scrumptious Cinnamon
Delicious Chocolate I will be totally honest here. I am not in any way sponsored by “Cheerios” (but I’ll be happy to be) so this opinion is real y’all…CINNAMON CHEERIOS ARE THE BEST SNACK EVER!!! I typically put a half cup of these delectable sweet treats into a baggie and put it in my lunch so that I have it at work and can munch on a few when (if) I get hungry. My students are always like, “Mr. Fairchild! Why you eatin’ Cheerios without milk? That’s weird!” That doesn’t bother me at all. That just opens the door for me to talk to them about eating healthy. I’m actually eating some right now as I type this!

Please note…Cinnamon and Chocolate Cheerios (and similar chocolate “O” products) do contain sugar, AND they do contain a bit of added preservatives to give them more shelf life…but those quantities are small. It’s not enough to give me pause, and the calorie intake doesn’t hurt my nutrition levels at all (if I eat the recommended serving).
Courtney and I like to throw a cup of these delectable sweet treats (obviously without milk) into a sandwich bag when we take long trips. One serving size (1 cup) is perfect to split between the two of us. They are yummy for my tummy!!!
Until next time…have a blessed day!

* As with any “craving”, if it’s “strong”, don’t ignore it. If you’re dying to have a cream filled donut…then eat a cream filled donut. All you have to do is add extra exercise to your day’s workout and/or adjust your calorie intake at your next meal. When we ignore our cravings they just get worse and the results could lead to us “falling off the wagon” and reverting back to our old habits and feeling defeated. Don’t let that happen. A healthy lifestyle is a lifelong process…not a one day process. That high calorie item (or meal) is not going to destroy your health goals. Eat the donut (or pizza, or chocolate cake, or whatever) and move on. No biggie!

Healthy Eating Yummy Hack: Low Calorie Mexican Rice Y’all

Beef Fajita Night! We had amaze-balls #beef #fajita wraps last night, and on the side…wait for it…MEXICAN RICE Y’ALL!
Courtney whipped up an amazing Mexican rice (or Spanish rice depending on what part of the world you’re from) by mixing #cauliflower rice, a little Rotel, a bit of beef bone broth, and seasonings. OH MY GOODNESS! It was #delicious!
And as usual, our fajita wraps were made with #leftovers. I took last night’s tenderloin #steak, sliced it up, added onions, peppers, a couple of teaspoons of olive oil, seasonings, put it all in a gallon size baggie, and mixed it up. Then grilled it all until the onions were “translucent” and the meat was good and hot, then spooned some on a lettuce wrap with jalapeños, fresh guacamole, and some feta. Yummy!
Y’all gotta try this meal! It’s heavenly goodness that is low in calorie and high in taste!
Until our next video…have a blessed day!
