Healthy Eating Treats: GoodPop Delicious Healthy Desserts!

    Y’ALL!!!

If you haven’t had a GoodPop frozen treat yet…stop what you’re doing, and go find a store that has them…and indulge in the awesomeness that is a GoodPop taste sensation.

GoodPop is an Austin (Texas…hellllooooo) based frozen snack company. It was started by University of Texas student Daniel Goetz. Daniel was in search of a healthy frozen snack one day and realized that his options were extremely limited. So…being a smart dude…he simply invented his own yummy health conscious frozen snack and began selling it to the good people of Central Texas.

Daniel’s first tasty treats were natural fruit based frozen desserts on a stick…BUT…it didn’t take him long to create delectable chilled sweets that now includes chocolate fudge pops, chocolate covered vanilla ice cream bars, orange and vanilla “Orange Julius” pops, and even a chocolate ice cream cookie.

Courtney and I are absolutely serious about finding and using (and making) natural foods with no processed “crap” or fake “stuff”. Typically, when looking for a low calorie frozen dessert snack, they are loaded with fake sugar substitutes and funny sounding ingredients that leave us scratching our heads. So finding GoodPops has been a blessing.

GoodPops have all natural flavors. The majority of their products are fruit flavored snacks. My favorite…the lemonade flavored pops. They take the place of the traditional “Red, White, and Blue Pops” that we grew up with. They are sweet AND tart. Perfect for a hot summer day (or a cool winter night). Even the scrumptious chocolate flavors are all natural. They use Fair Trade organic cocoa, organic coconut cream, and organic coconut sugar. No fake stuff here. And…they honestly taste good…no GREAT!

My only “complaint” (not really a complaint…but I feel like I need “con” to all the “pros”) would be the texture of the non-fruit snacks. The chocolate products do feel a bit “powdery” (or…not creamy) at first bite…but then they quickly become a smooth, creamy, dreamy, heavenly goodness as it start melting in your mouth.

GoodPop is totally aware of allergies and they ONLY produce their fruit treats in a separate production facility as to keep all ingredients and manufacturing processes free of tree nuts. The chocolate and ice cream products have their own manufacturing facility in an effort to keep the natural fruit products pure and allergy free. LOVE THAT!

These scrumptious frozen treats taste wonderful…are all natural…AND…they are very low calorie. They’re great for folks like us who are trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I can’t say enough about these awesome products. I’m currently down 109 pounds (on my way to losing 170 pounds) and Courtney is down 32 pounds (at the time of this article) AND we have no doubt that these tasty treats have been a large part of our success.

The good news (aside from the nutritional value) is that they are available ALL OVER the United States.

  • Healthy Lifestyle Shopping: Farmer’s Market Haul (8-27-22)

Healthy Lifestyle Shopping: Farmer’s Market Haul (8-27-22)

This weekend was a huge win for our weekly meat needs. Beef, pork, and chicken were on the shopping list, and all were purchased from local ranches. We love our meat suppliers! God bless the rancher AND the local farmer / gardener!

We only hit one farmers market as it was a busy Saturday! We ended up making the Georgetown, Texas Wolf Ranch Saturday market. It was packed…but still plenty of produce to choose from. All the vendors were busy selling, the smell of kettle corn was in the air, and the sounds of a jazz saxophonist and piano player brought music to our ears.

Honestly…the farmers market experiences we get to have are some of my favorite parts of living a health conscious life. We hope to see y’all at the next one!

Until our next video…have a blessed day!

Healthy Lifestyle Update: Weigh Day For Both Of Us; Preaching At Church Today (With Help From Carly)

Today is Sunday! God’s Day (everyday is God’s day helloooooo)! Weigh-in day!

Awesome results…but in all honesty, I’m not comfortable with the amount of weight loss I had this week. Courtney is down. She’s Rocking It! So proud of her!

We are continuing to explore and research what we think God is moving us toward over the coming year. It’s going to be amazing if what we are praying through actually happens. God is so cool!

I’m blessed to have the opportunity to bring the message in church this morning! And…I’ve asked Carly (our oldest daughter) and Nick (Junior’s boyfriend…Junior is our youngest daughter) to play How Great Thou Art (Carly singing and playing piano and Nick on slide guitar).

Overall…last week was a great week. A little bit of teacher stress…but all is good.

Until the next video, have a blessed day!

  • Health Eating: Brought To You By Your Local Farmers Market Near You!

Health Eating: Brought To You By Your Local Farmers Market Near You!

    Healthy eating is a choice.

By simply adding something as simple as the tomato / basil salad in this video to your meal, and taking off the French fries or Mac & cheese not only make your dinner or lunch nutritious and healthy…but DELICIOUS too!

This easy recipe calls for farm fresh cherry tomatoes sliced in two. Then straight from the garden basil that is finely chopped. A little feta cheese. A bit of olive oil. And a smidge of zesty Italian salad dressing.

It’s a hit with the fam…and the friends. Make some to go with supper tonight. You’ll be glad you did!

Until the next video, have a blessed day!

  • Healthy Lifestyle Benefits: Bloodwork; Vitals; And What Did Our Doctor Have To Say?

Healthy Lifestyle Benefits: Bloodwork; Vitals; And What Did Our Doctor Have To Say?

    What up peeps?

So today…by the way, how y’all doin’? Everybody doing okay? That was just rude going straight into the video like that!

Today was a really cool day. Courtney and I both had our physicals today…or our annual checkups today. And as I said before going in 100 pounds lighter, I was curious to see how the doctor was going to react.

He was was very impressed with our weight loss and health goals. The nurses were impressed too. It was awesome

it was just a great experience overall.

My vitals were perfect. First time that’s happened in a long time. I’ve been going to that office for a long time, and that’s the lowest I’ve been, weight wise, since I’ve been going to see our current Doctor (or a doctor in that office). Before today, the least I’ve weighed there was 388 pounds.

I went in today and I weighed 346 on their scale. The last time I was in, which I had gone in my first week of 75 Hard, I was down to 447 pounds (from 450.6). So I weighed today and came in at 346 pounds…on their scale. So that was awesome. My scale shows me at 350 (on Sunday anyway). So either my scale is a little too high, or there’s a little too low. Or I’ve managed to lose four pounds in three days which ain’t good. Hopefully that’s not the case. We’ll find out this Sunday at weigh-in!

So that was cool…that was awesome sauce.

I also did my blood work today. And the Doc said that they will look at those results in the next few days and we’ll see if there’s a chance that I can stop taking my meds (I take quite a few for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and for beginning stages of diabetes) or maybe I can cut back on those. I did make sure I told him that I was taking my meds once every other day…because I had lost quite a bit of weight and I was worried that taking them would mess things up. He agreed.

That is what happened today. Awesome report from the doctor’s office.

Until the next video, have a blessed day!

  • Todays Fresh Produce Haul AND Annual PhysicalUpdate (8-24-22)

Todays Fresh Produce Haul AND Annual PhysicalUpdate (8-24-22)
Today’s fresh produce haul: Bottle gourd, Chinese okra gourd, Broccoli micro greens, okra, cantaloupe, and the best tasting cherry tomatoes I’ve ever had!

Today Courtney and I had our annual checkups, and when we were done, we went in search of a farmers market or produce stand to load up on groceries for the next few days.

We came across one of the coolest produce stands in our area… Isle Acre Farms in Leander, TX. A small mom and pop stand run by Becky and Pete. I say small because their roadside stand is barely big enough to fit under a pop-up canopy…BUT THE FARM behind the produce stand…IMPRESSIVE AND MIGHTY.

Located in the heart of town, Isle Acre Farms gardens spans a few acres at least. They had a passion for growing fresh produce for their family in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle. It didn’t take long for their hobby of growing truly organic veggies to turn into a full time endeavor. Becky told us that in addition to growing and selling their delicious veggies, she and Pete teach folks about the benefits of fresh garden goodies! They drop healthy Lifestyle knowledge bombs people!

Courtney and I told them about our healthy lifestyle journey and how produce stands and farmers markets were our “jam”, and then we shared about our weight loss progress and how eating healthy (along with exercise) was a crucial part of our success. Pete told us he too had been “a big boy” and that once they started growing and eating fresh goodies from the garden, the pounds had no choice but to fall off. He was a pretty fit fella!

*Photo taken from the Isle Acre Farms website

To say that our trip to Isle Acre Farms was precious is an understatement. Pete and Becky were a blessing to talk to and a they had a wealth of knowledge to unpack. Courtney and I will definitely be going back to this hidden gem in the heart of Leander, Texas.

As stated earlier, Courtney and I had our annual Doctor’s visit (i.e. annual physical), and he was blown away with our progress (as were his nurses). I was down 101 pounds since the last time I was in (right when I started 75 Hard) and Courtney was down 31 pounds! There were handshakes, Oooos, and Ahhhhs all around!

Initial vitals showed my blood pressure was “perfect”, heart rate was “perfect” AND other things men over 50 get checked annually were “perfect”! We are waiting on bloodwork to discuss cutting back or eliminating blood pressure, cholesterol, and pre-diabetes meds.

Overall…a great day to be sure! I can’t wait to go back to Isle Acre Farms and I honestly can’t wait for my next health checkup!

Until next time…Have A Blessed Day!

Healthy Living Goals: Weigh-In; Finally Hit Goal 1; Wife Down! Wife Down!; Chivalry Ain’t Dead

Today is weigh-in day! It took a little longer than I wanted (and that’s totally OK), but I finally hit my first weight loss goal of 100 pounds. Now… on to 120, then 170!!!

Courtney is doing amazingly as well! Big weight loss benchmark for her! She is crushing the healthy lifestyle! She is the bomb digga-digga-dee!!! Her resolve and focus is an inspiration to me.

We’ve totally got to the point where our clothes are way too big…but we still have a ways to go, so we’re hesitant to buy new ones that will be too big in 6 months to a year. Weight loss problems!!!

I’m currently reading an amazing book about chivalry and true honor, respect, and courtesy. It’s called “The Compleat Gentleman! Yes…that is how complete is spelled on the cover…not complete.

Huge life change incoming! Stay tuned!

Until the next video, have a blessed day!

  • Healthy Eating Starts With Weekly Meal Planning

Healthy Eating Starts With Weekly Meal Planning

A great way to stay on track, when it comes to healthy eating, is to meal plan for the week.

It’s real easy to “slip” when it comes to eating healthy. One of the main reasons we trip up is because we haven’t planned out what it is we’re going to eat for the day. When we don’t have a plan (a battle plan) that show exactly what we intend to eat for each specific day…then when dinner rolls around and we stress about cooking dinner…we cave and order the large pizza for two (or one).

A great way to “win the battle” against junk food and overeating is to have a battle plan. Know exactly what meats, vegetables, and fruits you’re going to eat each day. That way you’re less likely to give into temptation (convince). You can buy a $1 spiral from the dollar store OR purchase a fancy daily planner from Amazon. Either way…start planning. You, and your diet, will be glad you did.

In addition, when we plan our meals for the week, we are able to better plan our budget. With the cost of groceries (and fuel…and living…and…) going up, it helps to be able to forecast what our food costs will be.

Much like anything, it helps to know what the future holds so we can better prepare. And when it comes to eating healthy…knowing what our weekly meals are going to be, will greatly help us succeed at our fitness and nutrition goals

    Blessings,

    Mitch and Courtney

  • Yummy Healthy Sides Are The foundation Of A Complete Delicious Meal: Fresh Produce Rocks!

Yummy Healthy Sides Are The foundation Of A Complete Delicious Meal: Fresh Produce Rocks!

When it comes to eating healthy and creating a sustainable healthy diet, not enough can be said about the yummy sides we choose for our breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals.

As we meal prep for the week, the side dishes are just as important as the main course. The fresh veggies should enhance the nutritional value of the meal, fulfill your appetite, and of course…BE DELICIOUS!

So…when we make our weekly trips to the farmers markets or roadside produce stands, we go with a plan. Not only are we purchasing awesome beef, chicken, and pork meats for the main dish, we are looking to see what awesome vegetables and fruits the vendors are offering that will pair well with that main dish.

This week, take a trip to your local farmers market, produce stand, or sustainable grocery store (I.e. Aldi, Sprouts) and start thinking SIDE DISHES!

Until the next video, have a blessed day!
