Reflecting On The Last 2 Years: What We’re Becoming Is Going To Be Awesome Thanks To What We’ve Done!

    Howdy Y’all!

Lately I’ve been reflecting on the transformative journey I’ve embarked on (along with my lovely bride Courtney) over the past two years. As we’ve been striving to rebuild (or build) a healthy lifestyle, we’ve intentionally focused on our physical, mental, and spiritual well being.  In the dynamic journey toward holistic wellness, Courtney and I have embarked on a transformative odyssey over the past two years, delving into the intricate realms of physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. From embracing mindful movement routines to nurturing resilient mental fortitude and exploring profound spiritual connections, our pursuit of a balanced lifestyle has unearthed invaluable insights. Join us as we unravel the profound lessons and discoveries that have sculpted our path toward optimal health and vitality, paving the way for a harmonious union of body, mind, and soul.

Here are some of the main takeaways (things this journey has taught me so far) as they relate to my personal physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. Now…mind you, there are many takeaways, but following highlights are the ones that stand out most.

    Physical Health:

Let’s kick things off with a truth bomb: obesity isn’t a disease—it’s a choice. This realization was a game-changer for me. Understanding that my lifestyle choices directly impact my weight and health empowered me to take control of my journey.

I had to stop tapping into my typical excuses like: my genetics make me fat; I just don’t have time to workout; and my personal favorite… “Healthy food” isn’t as good as packaged processed food! SPOILER ALERT: There ain’t no junk food that tastes as good as being healthy feels! Which brings me to my next point…

Nutrition. What we put into our bodies matters more than we often realize. Over the past two years, I’ve discovered the incredible power of nourishing, whole foods. By prioritizing nutrient-dense meals and ditching the processed junk, I’ve seen remarkable improvements in my overall health and wellbeing.

If you’ve been following our journey, you know the impact roadside produce stands and farmers markets have had on our lives. The best foods come straight from the farmer and rancher to you! No added pesticides, hormones, and preservatives. PLUS…as a bonus, when we shop at farmers markets and roadside produce stands, we’re helping local mom and pops put food on their table!

Working out is crucial! Another important part of being healthy physically, is putting in the work as it relates to exercise! You see, being healthy isn’t just about eating right… It’s also about how (and how much) you move. Regular exercise has become a cornerstone of our lifestyle, and the benefits have been nothing short of life-changing. Not only have I personally shed over 200 pounds, I’ve also bid farewell to my blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, and diabetes meds. Talk about a triple win!

Courtney and I were adding up our “mileage” the other day, and our rough estimate has me logging in just over 3,000 miles and her just over 18,00 miles since we began our healthy journey 2 years and 1 month ago. It’s safe to say we realize the importance of exercise…and it shows. This year we’ve started adding in weights and strength training as well as pilates and stretching (well…Courtney has added pilates and stretching…me…not so much…YET).

When it comes to our physical health, embracing a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about one thing—it’s about making holistic changes that support your body and mind. It’s about prioritizing nourishment, movement, and self-care every single day. When you start your healthy journey…you gotta make physical well being a priority!

    Mental Health:

Embarking on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle involves more than just physical changes; it encompasses mental and emotional well-being too. Over the past two years, our journey has not only taught us the significance of maintaining physical health but also highlighted the crucial role of mental health in this process. I think the greatest gift I’ve received from Andy Fisella’s “75 Hard” and “Live Hard Program” is my newfound love for knowledge. Knowledge acquisition that is found outside the traditional resource avenues like the evening news and social media. I’ve read more books in the past 2 years than I’ve read in the previous 51 years. History books, self-help books, biographies…you name it. All the non-fiction I can consume. Which meant stepping up and rising above a “slight” dyslexia problem.

One of the most profound lessons we’ve learned is that the information we consume profoundly influences our thoughts and actions. In today’s digital age, where information is abundant and easily accessible, it’s essential to be discerning about what we allow into our minds. Whether it’s through social media, news outlets, or personal interactions, the content we engage with molds our perceptions of the world and ourselves. We must be strategic in what information we allow in…and what information we fend off.

By being mindful of the quality and source of information we expose ourselves to, we can safeguard our mental well-being. Choosing to consume positive, uplifting content can inspire us to make healthier choices and foster a more optimistic outlook on life. Conversely, inundating ourselves with negativity and fear-inducing narratives can fuel stress, anxiety, and even impact our physical health negatively.

Another significant realization on our journey has been acknowledging the intentional manipulation of information by various entities. We constantly refer to these entities as “Them” and/or “They”. These are the people and organizations around the world who oppose faith, unity, and pride in country.  These entities come in all shapes and sizes.  Whether we acknowledge “them” as an international organization, government agencies, a political party, an individual, or Satan himself (let’s be real…at the end of the day, Satan is responsible for all the confusion that is being hurled at us daily) there’s a growing awareness of deliberate efforts to control and divide populations.

This realization isn’t about succumbing to paranoia but rather about critically evaluating the narratives presented to us. It’s about recognizing that agendas exist, and there are entities that have vested interests in shaping our beliefs and behaviors. Having the mental wherewithal allows us to become more discerning consumers of information, empowering us to question mainstream narratives and seek alternative perspectives. In other words…freethinkers.

Our journey towards a healthier lifestyle has been as much about nurturing our mental well-being as it has been about physical transformation. Honestly, I’ve been amazed at the mental transformation we’ve gone through over these past 2 years more so than the physical transformation. Through introspection and experience, we’ve come to appreciate the profound impact of the information we expose ourselves to and the intentional influences that shape our worldview.

“They” need us to be unhealthy, broke, and uneducated. Why? Because “they” have a strong desire for us to be reliant on them. They want us to turn to them for “help” with our finances, our health, and as our goto resource for information (which they control). How do we beat “them”…we prioritize mental health and adopt a critical mindset towards the information we consume. By doing so, we can navigate our life’s journey with clarity and resilience. Ultimately, it’s about empowering ourselves to make informed choices that align with our values and contribute to our overall well-being.

Y’ALL…Mitch has become a radical conspiracy theorist! If that’s your opinion you’re entitled to it. BUT…IF YOU’RE WONDERING WHY I have this sudden interest in the mental state of society…it’s because as teachers, we’re witnessing what I call “The Chaos Design” playing out in real time in the classroom. There is an obvious  intentional plan to cause as much chaos in our children as possible. Mental disorders are being left untreated…intentionally. Respect for country and authority is slowly being dissolved…intentionally. And “meritocracy” is being replaced by a push for mediocrity (which totally erodes the educational system) at an alarming rate… intentionally.

The only way to defeat this attack on our mental state is to strike back with knowledge. As the old saying goes, “Knowledge is power!”

    Spiritual Health:

As I reflect on the past two years of the spiritual aspect of our health and wellbeing journey, I’m struck by the awesome lessons God has taught me. It’s been an educational period filled with self-discovery, growth, and a deepening connection with the divine. Here are a few insights that have shaped my understanding of true spiritual health.

In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, embracing the truth that God is ultimately in control has been a source of immense comfort and liberation for me. It’s a reminder that I don’t have to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders. Instead, I can surrender my worries and fears to a loving Heavenly Father who knows what’s best for me. This surrender isn’t about giving up. On the contrary. It acknowledges that God’s plan is at work and is beyond my comprehension.

The extent of my potential doesn’t end once I do all I can do… it extends into what God can do through me. Discovering the limitless nature of my potential has been a game-changer in my spiritual journey. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that my abilities and efforts are finite, but recognizing that God can work through me opens up a world of possibilities. By aligning my will with divine purpose, I’ve witnessed miracles unfold and seen my capacity for impact expand beyond what I ever imagined possible.

Once we define our purpose AND how it aligns with God’s purpose… we will know what TRULY matters and what doesn’t. We will begin to understand our boundaries and know what actions we should do and shouldn’t do. What we should say “Yes” to and what we need to say “No” to.

Clarifying my purpose and understanding God’s purpose for me has been instrumental in establishing clear boundaries and priorities in my life. When we have a deep sense of purpose, it becomes easier to discern what truly matters and what distractions we can let go of. This clarity empowers us to make decisions aligned with our values and goals, saying yes to opportunities that align with our divine calling and gracefully declining those that don’t serve our higher purpose.

My spiritual health and wellbeing journey over the past two years has been marked by profound revelations and growth. By embracing the truth of divine control, recognizing my unlimited potential, and clarifying my purpose and boundaries, I’ve found greater peace, joy, and fulfillment. I pray that God blesses you abundantly as you journey down your own path of spiritual health and that your relationship with Him grows beyond what you can possibly fathom.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

As we continue on our wellness journey, Courtney and I are grateful for the profound transformations and newfound wisdom that have been introduced into our lives over the past two years. By prioritizing physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing, we’ve unlocked a treasure trove of resilience, self-awareness, and fulfillment. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue nurturing these pillars of overall health, knowing that each step forward brings us closer to a life of vitality, purpose, and an authentic, stronger relationship with God. My hope is that our life inspires others to embark on their own paths toward self mastery, armed with the knowledge that true transformation begins from within.

Student Like A Boss: Empowering Families

Picture this: a platform where young minds can unleash their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. That’s the vision behind Student Like A Boss, born from years of teaching digital art and graphic design to students from all walks of life. We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of giving kids the tools to express themselves and share their creations with the world. In a nutshell, students learn digital art skills, then we teach them how to start an online store (with mom and dad’s help) where they can sell their artwork on various merchandise like shirts, hoodies, phone cases, clocks, socks, backpacks..and so much more!

I’ve been working on this curriculum in my classroom for years. From time to time I’ve started to offer it to families…but I’ve always stopped short…thinking it isn’t good enough. BUT…I’ve seen so much success in the classroom with my students and their online stores…that I have to share it with the world. I began to offer the lessons on Teachers Pay Teachers (an online platform where teachers can offer their curriculum and classroom resources to other educators) and much to my surprise…the lessons started selling.

So…for a fee of $39 a month, member families can unlock a treasure trove of over 120 digital art lessons and tutorials, empowering their children (and parents) to explore, create, and dream big. It’s more than just learning—it’s about instilling confidence, fostering independence, and nurturing a love for innovation from an early age. For more information, check out the links below!

Teachers started seeing my sets and asked if I could make some custom sets for them. After realizing there was an interest, I started offering the sets on Teachers Pay Teachers, and sure enough, they started selling… really well.

Tejas Kolache Company: A Taste of Texas Love

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about the magic happening in our kitchen at Tejas Kolache Company. Inspired by the flavors of our beloved Texas, we’re baking up a storm of kolache and “Mega-Yum” cookies that’ll have your taste buds dancing with delight. From savory classics to sweet surprises, each bite is a love letter to our Lone Star roots.

Whether you’re craving a cozy breakfast treat or a decadent afternoon snack, our kolache and cookies are here to satisfy your cravings and warm your soul. It’s more than just food—it’s a taste of home, served with a side of Southern hospitality. Prices vary depending on the number of fillings you get in our kolache and/or if you get cookies.

OK…OK… let’s address the elephant in the room… we know what you’re thinking: “Wait a minute, aren’t these the same folks who’ve been preaching the gospel of health and wellness for the past two years?” Guilty as charged! But here’s the scoop: we’re all about balance, baby.

Sure, we’ve embarked on a journey to prioritize our health and well-being, and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress we’ve made (and continue to make). But here’s the thing—we firmly believe that life is all about enjoying the sweet moments, quite literally. That’s why we’re OK with dipping our toes (and taste buds) into the world of baked goodies with Tejas Kolache Company.

Here’s the skinny: indulging in a tasty treat every now and then isn’t just permissible—it’s downright essential. We’ve always said that denying yourself the occasional cookie, slice of pizza, or (heaven forbid) a small bowl of ice cream is a recipe for resentment of healthy eating habits.

So, while we’re all about nourishing our bodies with wholesome, nutritious foods, we’re also firm believers in the power of moderation and mindful indulgence. After all, what’s life without a little sweetness thrown into the mix? Discipline is the name of the game when it comes to striking that perfect balance between treating yourself and staying true to your health goals. It’s all about knowing when to say “when” and savoring each mouthwatering morsel without going overboard.

So, whether you’re craving a flaky, fruit-filled kolache or a gooey, chocolatey cookie the size of your face, know this: once up and running (over the summer) Tejas Kolache Company will be here to satisfy your cravings and elevate your taste buds to new heights. It’s a guilt-free zone where flavor reigns supreme and every bite is a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. Wisdom From The Word:

As we journey down the path of entrepreneurship, we constantly look to God for guidance. We understand that if He’s not involved in our endeavors, that they have no chance of succeeding. One piece of scripture that I’ve focused on is Ecclesiastes 11:6 which reads:

“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.”

God hits home by encouraging us to take initiative, invest effort, and embrace uncertainty in our entrepreneurial ventures. Just as a farmer sows seeds in the morning without knowing which will flourish, we embark on these entrepreneurial journeys, putting our energy and dedication into each endeavor, not knowing what will happen…but embracing the excitement of “what can be”. We understand that not every venture may yield the same level of success, but we remain committed to working diligently and allowing God to guide us in our endeavors.

This passage also highlights the importance of a proactive approach to life. God urges us not to be idle but to continue working diligently from morning to evening. It reflects our philosophy of embracing a mindset of continuous growth and seizing opportunities as they come, even if the outcome is uncertain. Ultimately, it reminds us to trust in God’s providence and remain steadfast in our efforts, knowing that if we stay committed to His plan, and use our businesses to bring glory to Him and spread the good news of the saving grace of Jesus, He will bless the endeavors in one way or another.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

We want y’all to join us on ALL OF OUR JOURNEYS! So, what do you say? Are you ready to join us on this whirlwind adventure of creativity, community, and culinary delights? • You Haven’t Been Buried, You’ve Been Planted!

You Haven’t Been Buried, You’ve Been Planted!

In the garden of life, it’s easy to feel buried by challenges, setbacks, and obstacles. But what if we shift our perspective? What if, instead of seeing ourselves as buried, we recognize that we’ve been planted? Planted with the potential to grow, thrive, and bloom beyond our wildest dreams. In this blog post, I want to briefly explore how by identifying life’s trials as opportunities for growth and transformation, rather than as defeats, we can actually start achieving more success in life, in health and in business.

At the end of the day, turning roadblocks and personal setbacks into growth potential comes down to perspective! We’ve been trained (either by environment or negative people in our lives) to view chaotic events as barriers that exist to keep us from fulfilling our dreams. In actuality, these life events (that EVERYONE has by the way) are just that…part of life. They are inevitable. Like grandpa said, “Deal with it!”

BUT HOW? Here are three steps we can take to help us begin to view life’s trials as nutrient rich soil that can help us grow (not dirt intended to bury us and our dreams alive):

    Step 1: Embrace Resilience:

When faced with adversity, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or even defeated. However, resilience is the key to not only surviving but thriving in the face of challenges. Instead of viewing setbacks as roadblocks, see them as opportunities to tap into your inner strength and resilience.

Just like a seed planted in fertile soil, your trials can serve as nourishment for your growth. Embrace the process of resilience-building, knowing that each challenge you overcome makes you stronger, wiser, and more resilient for the journey ahead.

    Step 2: Cultivate Patience:

In a world of instant gratification, patience can feel like a lost art. However, growth takes time, and patience is essential for allowing the seeds of transformation to take root and flourish. Rather than expecting immediate results or quick fixes, trust in the process of growth and evolution.

Just as a seed requires time to sprout, grow, and blossom into a beautiful flower, recognize that your journey of growth may unfold gradually. Cultivate patience as you navigate life’s trials, knowing that each moment of waiting is a valuable opportunity for growth and development.

    Step 3: Foster Gratitude:

Amidst life’s trials, it can be challenging to find reasons to be grateful. However, gratitude is a powerful tool for shifting your perspective and finding meaning in difficult circumstances. Instead of dwelling on what’s going wrong, focus on what’s going right. Take time each day to acknowledge and appreciate the blessings, lessons, and opportunities that arise, even in the midst of adversity.

Just as a seed requires sunlight, water, and nutrients to thrive, gratitude nourishes your spirit and fuels your growth. By fostering an attitude of gratitude, you’ll cultivate resilience, patience, and a deep sense of appreciation for the journey of growth.

    Wisdom From The Word:

I love me some Romans 5:3-5 which reads,”Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

This scripture emphasizes the transformative power of suffering and challenges, as they lead to perseverance, character development, and ultimately, hope. It highlights the idea that trials are not meant to defeat us but to strengthen and refine us, ultimately leading to a deeper sense of hope and trust in God’s love.

    Bottom Line Y’all:

Life’s trials are not meant to bury us but to plant us firmly in the soil of growth and transformation. By embracing resilience, cultivating patience, and fostering gratitude, we can view our challenges as opportunities for growth and become better versions of ourselves in the process.

So remember, you haven’t been buried – you’ve been planted. Now, it’s time to grow above and beyond what you and others can ever comprehend. Embrace the journey, trust the process, and watch yourself bloom.

  • Just Say “No: 6 Respectful Ways to Decline

Just Say “No: 6 Respectful Ways to Decline

Let’s be real…when we hear the word “no”, it often carries a negative connotation. However, learning to say “no” is crucial for maintaining our health, managing our time effectively, and achieving our goals. Despite this, many of us (preaching to myself y’all) struggle to decline requests, fearing we’ll come across as rude or disrespectful. But it’s time to recognize that saying “no” is not only acceptable but also necessary for our wellbeing and success.

    Why Saying “No” Matters:

Constantly saying “yes” to every demand on our time can lead to burnout, stress, and even resentment. Overcommitting ourselves leaves little room for the activities and projects that truly matter to us. By learning to say “no,” we reclaim control over our schedules and prioritize our mental and physical health. Whether it’s focusing on a career-defining project, launching a business, or simply tackling household chores, saying “no” allows us to allocate our time and energy where it’s needed most.

    The Challenge of Saying “No”:

Despite its benefits, saying “no” can be challenging. Many of us fear disappointing others or damaging relationships by declining their requests. However, it’s essential to recognize that setting boundaries is not inherently rude or disrespectful. In fact, it’s a sign of self-respect and assertiveness.

6 Respectful Ways to Say “No”:

The Grateful Decline: Express appreciation for the opportunity while politely declining. For example, “Thank you for thinking of me, but I’m unable to commit to this at the moment.”

Offer an Alternative: If possible, suggest an alternative solution or compromise. For instance, “I can’t help with this right now, but perhaps I can assist you next week.”

Be Honest and Brief: Honesty is key, but it’s also important to keep your response concise. You can simply say, “I’m currently focusing on other priorities.”

Express Regret: Show empathy for the requester’s situation while standing firm in your decision. You might say, “I’m sorry, but I have to decline this time.”

Set Boundaries: Clearly communicate your boundaries and priorities. For example, “I’m committed to my current projects and need to prioritize them.”

Practice Self-Care: Remember that saying “no” is an act of self-care. Let “them” know that you need this time to take care of your own needs because you have people that are counting on you and you need to be at your peak performance so you can better support others in the long run. Simply let them know, “I appreciate the opportunity, but at this time, I need to take some time to recharge and de-stress from what’s been a long and crazy month.”

    Wisdom From The Word:

A great piece of scripture that aligns with the concept of self-care and setting boundaries is Ephesians 5:15-16:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Through this passage, God encourages us to be mindful of how we live our lives and to make wise decisions. It implies that part of living wisely involves being selective with our time and commitments, prioritizing what truly matters, and taking care of ourselves in order to make the most of the opportunities presented to us.

Remember, one of the devil’s best weapons is to get us so busy, we lose focus of Jesus and His plan for our life.

    Bottom Line Y’all:

Saying “no” is not about being selfish or unkind; it’s about recognizing and respecting our own limitations. By setting boundaries and learning to decline requests respectfully, we can safeguard our health, focus on our priorities, and ultimately lead more fulfilling lives.

So, the next time you’re faced with a demand on your time, remember that it’s okay to say “no.” Your wellbeing and success depend on it.

  • Don’t Regret Anything – Learn From Everything!

Don’t Regret Anything – Learn From Everything!

Don’t regret anything – learn from everything! So many times, our regrets haunt us and remind us of missed opportunities, failures, and unfortunate circumstances. But… what if we could shift our perspective and see these regrets as invaluable lessons rather than burdensome mistakes? Let’s briefly explore the transformative power of learning from everything life throws our way and how embracing these lessons can lead to profound personal growth.

Embrace Failure as a Stepping Stone:

I don’t mean to sound like a broken record…but failure is a universal experience, and how we respond to it defines our trajectory. Instead of regretting all that went wrong, consider failure as a stepping stone to success. Each setback presents an opportunity to analyze what went awry, recalibrate our approach, and ultimately emerge stronger and more resilient.

    Learn from Unfortunate Circumstances:

Let’s be real…life is unpredictable, and unfortunate circumstances can derail even the best-laid plans. Sickness, financial distress, and relationship issues can cause great stress in our lives. However, amidst the chaos, there lies an opportunity to cultivate resilience and adaptability. Instead of crying over spilt milk and regretting the situations we find ourselves in (we put ourselves in), we need to view these challenges as learning experiences. Through them, we can uncover hidden strengths, develop coping mechanisms, and ultimately navigate future obstacles with greater ease.

    Turn Letdowns into Motivation:

It seems like more and more, people (and organizations) are disappointing us by not keeping their word and/or proving themselves to be totally opposite of what they claimed to be. They make promises and then let us down by not keeping those promises. Letdowns and disappointments can be disheartening, but they also offer a chance to reassess our priorities and motivations. Instead of regretting coming into contact with these people and organizations, use these moments as fuel to propel yourself forward. Channel the disappointment into determination, setting new goals and striving relentlessly to achieve them.

    Cultivate a Growth Mindset:

As a society, we’ve become quite hyper focused. We concentrate on one thing, and in doing so, we lose sight of everything else around us. At the heart of learning from everything lies a growth mindset – the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. By embracing this mindset, we shift our focus from fixed limitations to boundless potential. Every setback becomes an opportunity for growth, and every challenge is met with resilience and determination.

Here Is A Simple Strategy To Help You Learn from Everything:

Reflect Regularly: Set aside time to reflect on past experiences, identifying key lessons learned and areas for improvement.

Seek Feedback: Y’all, I can’t tell you the value of seeking and taking feedback! Stop getting butt-hurt when somebody suggests a different way of doing things. Embrace feedback as constructive criticism, recognizing it as an invaluable tool for personal and professional growth.

Embrace Failure: I’ll ride this horse until my dying day. Instead of fearing failure, embrace it as a natural part of the learning process, viewing each misstep as an opportunity to refine your skills and knowledge.

Stay Curious: Curiosity didn’t kill the cat…it made the cat better! Cultivate a thirst for knowledge and new experiences, remaining open-minded and receptive to the lessons life has to offer.

    Wisdom From The Word:

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. ~James 1:2-4

This passage encourages us to view trials as opportunities for growth and maturity. It teaches that enduring challenges with joy leads to the development of perseverance, which in turn leads to spiritual maturity and completeness. It emphasizes the transformative power of adversity and the importance of embracing trials as opportunities for personal development. Our faith in our Heavenly Father can see us through any…and all adversity. We just have to trust Him…and His plan for each and every one of us.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

As we travel down this fun…sometimes crazy…road of life, regrets need not weigh us down. Instead, they can serve as landmarks guiding us towards personal growth and self-discovery. By adopting a mindset of continuous learning and resilience, we can transform every failure, unfortunate circumstance, and let down into a stepping stone towards a brighter, more fulfilling future. So, don’t regret anything – learn from everything!

  • Embrace Your Fresh Start: Every Day is Your New Year!

Embrace Your Fresh Start: Every Day is Your New Year!

Hey there, champions of health and happiness!

Let’s talk about New Year’s resolutions. You know, those lofty goals we set at the start of each year with the best of intentions, only to find ourselves falling off the wagon a few weeks in? Yeah, we’ve all been there. But here’s the thing: Every day is your chance to hit that reset button and start anew.

For those new to this blog, I want to share a bit of my journey with you all. Over the past two years, I’ve experienced the incredible highs of shedding 201 pounds. It was a journey filled with hard work, dedication, and a whole lot of self-discovery. But lately, I found myself carrying around an extra 25-30 pounds—not exactly where I wanted to be. Some of it was muscle gain, thanks to my focus on building up my “guns,” but a good chunk of it was simply reverting back to old, lazy habits that once led me to weigh 450 pounds.

But here’s the silver lining: We have the power to kick start a “healthy new year” any day of the year. So, today—March 18th—I’m declaring it my personal “new year’s resolution” day. I’m hitting the reset button and focusing on the habits, practices, and strategies that not only helped me lose weight but also brought me to a better mental state of mind.

I’ve decided to embark on another round of 75 Hard, and I’m setting my sights on completing the full one-year version, Live Hard. I know some of you are wrapping up 75 Hard, while others are in the midst of Live Hard, and many more of you are simply striving to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Wherever you are on your health journey, I want you to know this: YOU ROCK!

The fact that you’ve made personal development a priority speaks volumes about your strength and resilience. So, let’s support each other. Share your victories, your struggles, and your aspirations. Let’s encourage and inspire one another as we all strive to be the best versions of ourselves.

Remember, every day is your new year. It’s your chance to start fresh, to recommit to your goals, and to take another step forward on your journey to health and happiness.

So here’s to us, my fellow warriors. Let’s embrace each day as an opportunity for growth, and let’s continue to lift each other up as we chase our dreams.

    Keep shining bright!

    With love and admiration,

    ~Mitch

  • Results or Consequences? The Choice Is Yours!

Results or Consequences? The Choice Is Yours!

Researchers believe that the average person makes roughly 35,000 decisions per day. That’s “thousands” with a THHHH!

Every decision we make acts as a thread, weaving the fabric of our future. These choices will lead us to one of two outcomes…results…or consequence.  Results or Consequences? The choice is ours! Today I want to look at the impact our choices have on our lives and how the decisions we make will either lead us to fruitful results or inevitable consequences.

    The Art of Decision-Making
In the grand theater of life, decisions take center stage, spotlighting the pivotal role they play in orchestrating the symphony of our existence. Each decision, irrespective of its apparent significance, contributes as a brushstroke on the canvas of our individual and collective narratives. Even the seemingly inconsequential daily decisions, often overlooked or dismissed, carry intrinsic value. The choice of what to wear, what to eat, or how to spend a spare moment may appear minor, yet these decisions collectively mold the contours of our character, influencing the tapestry of our daily experiences and interactions.

Whether standing at a life-altering crossroad or navigating the routine of the mundane, the decisions we make reverberate through time, etching patterns that define the chapters of our lives. Recognizing the inherent value in every decision empowers us to approach each choice with mindfulness and intentionality, understanding that they collectively shape the narrative of our journey. Life’s grand tapestry is woven not only with the threads of major milestones but also with the subtleties of everyday decisions, illustrating the interconnectedness of our choices and their profound impact on the unfolding story of our lives.

    Embrace Responsibility
Choosing results over consequences is like taking charge of your own story – it’s about owning up when things don’t go as planned. We all make choices, big and small, and sometimes they don’t lead to the outcomes we wanted. But that’s where the real growth happens. Taking responsibility isn’t about pointing fingers; it’s about looking in the mirror and figuring out what went sideways.

Even when our decisions end up causing more trouble than we bargained for, it’s a chance to learn. It’s like a DIY project for personal development. Fixing our mistakes, understanding where we went off track, and promising ourselves to do better next time. Our actions, no matter how tiny they seem, add up and shape where we’re headed. So, by saying, “Yep, I messed up, but I can do better,” we give ourselves the power to move past the oops moments. It’s not just about avoiding consequences; it’s about setting the stage for a future that lines up with what we really want.

    Navigating Challenges
Life is a winding road full of challenges. Those challenges act like a litmus test for our resilience and determination. It’s in the face of these challenges that the true power of results (as opposed to consequences) is revealed. Choosing to pursue results, instead of mindlessly getting caught up in consequences, doesn’t mean we’ll have a trouble-free life. Instead, we begin to view challenges through the lens of opportunity. We must stop seeing obstacles as roadblocks, and reshape our perspective so that we view them as stepping stones leading us closer to our goals. Each challenge becomes an invitation for growth and self-discovery. Challenges become a chance to tap into reservoirs of strength we may not have known existed.

The art of opting for results is deeply intertwined with the development of resilience. As we confront and navigate challenges, our resilience strengthens. We begin a transformation process where everyday setbacks become sources for grit and determination. A stronger sense of grit and determination becomes our greatest asset when faced with daily opposition. While others may be tempted to throw in the towel, those of us who choose to be results driven, find ourselves not only enduring but thriving amid life’s adversities. Our new found resilience, forged in the fire of daily trials, serves as a propellant… catapulting us beyond the reach of life’s chaos. It’s not just about weathering the storm… It’s about emerging stronger and more empowered on the other side.

    Strategies for Positive Results
Choosing results is more than a roll of the dice; it’s a deliberate and intentional set of actions. It starts with setting clear goals, not just vague wishes but concrete, achievable targets that give direction to our journey. These goals become like lighthouses, guiding our decisions and actions in a purposeful direction. But it’s not just about knowing where you want to go; it’s also about being flexible in your approach. Life loves throwing curveballs, and having the ability to adapt your strategy while keeping your eyes on the prize is HUGE.

Furthermore, fostering a growth mindset is a game-changer in the toolkit of choosing results over consequences. It goes back to identifying challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to learn and improve. When the $%#@ hits the fan… and it will… we don’t throw in the towel! We adjust the sails and keep navigating towards our goals. These practical tips and strategies are like a roadmap that empowers us to navigate our own journey. They are foundational in how we actively shape our destiny, making decisions not out of reaction but out of a clear understanding of where we want to go and the resilience to get there.

    Mindfulness and Decision-Making
Mindfulness isn’t just a buzzword that life coaches use daily…OK…maybe it is… but in all honesty; it’s a game-changer in the decision-making arena. It’s about more than just taking a deep breath; it’s about staying present and tuned in to the beat of our own values. When we’re mindful, we create this space between the chaos life throws at us and the response we have to the chaos. Mindfulness gives us the power to make choices aligned with our authentic selves. It’s like having a compass that points to our “true North”, helping us navigate through life’s maze with a sense of purpose and clarity. I urge everyone to carve away some time and craft their own mission statement and define their core values. We all need to peel back the layers and uncover the principles that guide our lives.

Knowing who we are and what we stand for provides a foundation for mindful decision-making. It’s our game plan for tackling the complexities of life’s choices. This self-awareness becomes a torch that lights up the pathway of life’s journey and helps us identify what actions we need to take to add value to ourselves and those around us. By being in tune with our core values, we develop the mindfulness to discern what is genuinely important and worth our time, energy, and attention. Crafted in this self-awareness, we gain the clarity to identify elements that might be detrimental or distracting, allowing us to cut out the noise and focus on what truly aligns with our authentic selves. It’s not just about making decisions; it’s about making choices that resonate with the essence of who we are and what we hold dear. In knowing who we truly are, we are better able to focus on results, and avoid a ton of consequences that exist because we just don’t know what we stand for.

    Consequences as Lessons
To be clear. We are all personally responsible for our own consequences…but… the consequences we endure because of poor choices don’t define us. In fact, if we apply what was just discussed above (with reference to challenges), consequences aren’t always bad. Sometimes, they’re like our favorite teachers from elementary, middle, and high school who pushed us to learn and grow. They hold the keys to unlocking a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. It’s in the moments of facing consequences, good or bad, that we get a front-row seat to our own strengths and weaknesses. Instead of dodging the lessons, knowing how to embrace consequences becomes a game-changer. It’s about turning setbacks into these powerful stepping stones for personal evolution, a chance to upgrade ourselves to version 2.0.

When we learn to embrace consequences, it’s not just about our own journey. It’s like we become these walking guidebooks for others who might be going through the same “crap”. By openly sharing how we overcame our own consequences, we’re telling those people in our sphere of influence, “Hey, I’ve been there, done that, and here’s how you can kick those challenges to the curb too.” It’s the whole, “A rising tide lifts all boats” concept where our experiences become a source of inspiration that lifts up others who are navigating similar waters. Embracing consequences, in essence, becomes this powerful tool not just for personal growth but for creating a community of empowerment.

    Wisdom From The Word
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
        ~ Galatians 6:7-8

Galatians 6:7-8 highlights the essence of choice, responsibility, and the outcomes of our actions. It emphasizes the principle that our choices, akin to sowing seeds, determine the nature of the harvest we reap. Our decisions carry consequences, and the path we choose to sow, whether guided by self-centered desires or God’s values, will yield corresponding results. This passage shines a spotlight on the idea that “the choice” is indeed ours, and the outcomes are a reflection of our intentional decisions and the values we prioritize in life.

    Bottom Line Y’all…
As you navigate the labyrinth of life, the dichotomy between results and consequences remains a constant companion. The choice ultimately lies within you, shaping the narrative of your existence. By understanding the profound impact of your decisions, embracing responsibility, and adopting strategies for positive results, we can embark on a journey of purpose, fulfillment, and self-discovery. So…what will you choose – results or consequences? The choice is undeniably yours!

  • The Power Of That First Step

The Power Of That First Step

As we strive for personal excellence, one profound truth stands strong – “If we’re gonna win, we gotta begin!” Whether it’s sculpting a healthier lifestyle, navigating a career change, mastering financial freedom, fostering relationships, or venturing into entrepreneurship, the undeniable key to success lies in that initial step.

Embrace the Momentum That Comes With Beginning
Every monumental accomplishment, every transformative journey, every new stage of life… traces its roots back to a single decision – the decision to begin. It’s not just about taking that first step; it’s about embracing the momentum of change that comes with it. After that first step comes the second step, then the third, then the forth, then a million after that. By being intentional about constantly moving forward, we lay the foundation of our continuous improvement journey. Just as a rolling snowball gathers mass and speed, our endeavors (whatever they may be) gain power with each progressive move.

Overcoming the Comfort of Our Comfort Zone
Often, the comfortable feeling we find while in the bubble of our comfort zone, prevents us from making that vital first move. We find contentment in the familiar and we fear the unknown path that stretches before us. However, true “growth” (be it physically, mentally, financially, or spiritually) happens outside our comfort zone.

Fear could be found on the eve of the greatest Revolutionary battles throughout history. Yet, the soldiers, Generals, and Nations opted to push past fear because they understood the positive impact the outcome would have on future generations. That dream of a better future far exceeded the fear they had in the moment. Real life change begins when we challenge ourselves to step into uncharted territories.

The Ripple Effect of Taking Action
Mother Teresa has been credited with saying, “’I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples”. Just like the positive impact she had on the lives of so many, the first step we take toward creating a better life for ourselves will have a tremendous ripple effect.

Much like a stone cast into a pond, our actions create waves throughout our life. Each subsequent step becomes easier as we build confidence, resilience, and a heightened sense of capability. The person we are when we take that first step on our personal development journey is not the same person who continues day in and day out towards the goal(s) we’ve set. We are stronger, wiser, and more attuned to the possibilities within our grasp and we better understand our potential. Our ripple (sphere of excellence) grows bigger and bigger.

    Taming the Fear of Failure
I hate to sound like a broken record…but I love to talk about the benefits of failing. Failure, often viewed as a roadblock, is merely a stepping stone on the path to success. The act of beginning any journey, equips us with the resilience to face setbacks and the wisdom to learn from them. Sadly, the “fear of starting” causes most people to never begin the journey of becoming our best. Thus, dreams of what could be… lay piled at our feet like dead leaves decaying on the ground…never to experience their full potential.

We must stop viewing failure as a roadblock, and start viewing it as a learning tool. In the midst of failure, we need to look around and see what went wrong, and what we need to change, so that our next attempt will take us further. Rather than fearing failure, we must see it as a guide, directing us toward refinement and improvement.

    Celebrating the Small Victories
As we pursue our significant goals, it’s crucial to celebrate the small victories along the way. Each step, no matter how minor, is a triumph worth acknowledging. That doesn’t mean having a weeklong party… It simply means we take a moment to celebrate our accomplishments, take time to strategize about how to meet the next milestone, and take the first step toward that next milestone.  These milestones not only boost motivation but also serve as markers of progress, illustrating how far we’ve come since that initial decision to begin.

    Wisdom From The Word

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.      ~ Galatians 6:9

This verse emphasizes the positive impact our actions, even if small, can have. The steps we take daily as we walk through life can lead to a bountiful harvest over time. As we embrace the momentum of change, and the continuous commitment to doing what’s best for us (and others) can contribute to transformative outcomes and positive impacts in one’s life and the lives of others.

    Bottom Line Y’all…
The journey of personal development is a testament to the power of the first step. It’s not just a physical movement; it’s a mindset shift. So, whether our goal is to get healthier, find a new job, fix your finances, nurture relationships, or start a business – remember, it will NEVER happen if we don’t take that first step. Our victory begins with our decision to commence the journey toward a better, more fulfilled version of ourselves. IT’S OUR TIME! Let’s unleash the potential that lies within each of us by taking that initial step. If we’re gonna WIN, we gotta BEGIN!

  • Godspeed George! I’ll Miss You Buddy!

Godspeed George! I’ll Miss You Buddy!

Yesterday marked a poignant moment in my life as my family and I said goodbye to our loyal and gentle basset hound, George. I don’t think we’ve had a more well mannered and loving pup. He was a loving and obedient friend right up to his past moments. Even in the midst of a battle with cancer, he was precious.

In the midst of this sorrow, I found myself in the middle of my latest 75 Hard journey of physical and mental training. I’m not gonna lie…I really didn’t feel like “75-Harding”. But, If I’ve learned one thing over the past (almost) 2 years of 75H and the Live Hard program… it’s the importance of continuous improvement, even when it’s not comfortable, or ideal, or daunting as heck. Moving forward is not only a habit that is essential for physical and mental growth, but also for success in ALL aspects of life.

Fall off the Wagon Or Stay On: Your Choice

In the face of loss, it’s natural to be tempted to succumb to stress eating, seek solace in alcohol, take a break from the rigor of a training routine, or straight up put a pause on life for a period of time. The passing of a beloved pet, the death of a family member, or any significant loss can shake the foundations of our resilience. However, it’s crucial to recognize that life’s challenges are inevitable, and how we respond to them shapes our journey. It’s hard when we’re in the depths of despair and even depression, but for the safety and wellbeing of ourselves, our loved ones, and our goals (future), we must reach down and pull ourselves up by our bootstraps! Nobody ever said life would be easy…and if they did…they were idiots!

    Chaos and Loss Are Inevitable

Chaos and loss are inherent aspects of our human experience. Whether it’s the ending of a valued relationship, the loss of a job, or the passing of a dear companion like George, these moments bring a wave of emotions that can be overwhelming. Yet, understanding that these challenges are part of life’s tapestry is the first step toward resilience.

Keep Moving Forward: The Backbone of Continuous Improvement

When life throws curveballs, the instinct to keep moving forward becomes vital. Continuous improvement is not just about achieving personal milestones, it’s a mindset that propels us forward, even in the face of adversity. It’s understanding that progress shouldn’t halt, even when we’re in the midst of grieving. Grieving is a necessary part of the healing process, but it should never become a barrier to our personal development.

    Grieve But Stay Steadfast

Grieving is a unique and personal journey that allows us to process emotions and find solace. It’s a valuable part of the healing process, providing an outlet for the pain that accompanies loss. Embracing this process, while still maintaining a commitment to our personal growth, creates a delicate balance between acknowledging our emotions and forging ahead.

    Wisdom From The Word

One Biblical scripture that resonates with the idea of moving forward even when it seems like we css asnt go on is Philippians 3:14:

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

This verse emphasizes the concept of pressing on, despite obstacles, towards a greater purpose. It encourages us to maintain resilience and commitment to our walk with Christ, mirroring the sentiment of continuous improvement in the face of life’s challenges.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

In the face of George’s passing, I’m reminded of the power of resilience that continuous improvement can instills in us. As we navigate life’s challenges (and changes), let’s embrace the resolve and fortitude that can be gained/learned in times of chaos and loss. Grieve (because that is needed AND normal), but let it be a stepping stone for growth rather than an obstacle. Our journey toward progress is not always linear, but it is, undoubtedly, transformative. Together, let’s transcend the anguish (and anger) associated with loss (of loved ones, a job/promotion, a relationship, etc.) by pressing on, staying committed to our personal growth, and finding strength and resilience in the midst of life’s uncertainties.

  • Three Steps Forward And Two Steps Back Still Equals One Step Forward!

Three Steps Forward And Two Steps Back Still Equals One Step Forward!

In our journey down the path of life, we often find ourselves taking steps forward, only to encounter setbacks that feel like steps backward. But what if we reframed our perspective and embraced the idea that even in setbacks, there is progress? After all…Three Steps Forward And Two Steps Back Still Equals One Step Forward! Here are 3 ways we can experience empowerment and progress even while it feels like we’re moving backwards in life.

    Step 1: Embrace Change
Let’s be honest…life is a dynamic and ever-changing journey, marked by constant growth and evolution. Each step we take forward is a testament to our commitment to progress, whether it be in our personal or professional pursuits. This commitment is an acknowledgment that development is not a linear path but a series of intentional choices and actions that propel us toward our goals.

However, the reality is that change is an inherent part of this journey. Rather than perceiving change as an immovable object, view it as an opportunity for learning and adaptation. When we stumble across challenges in life’s journey, it’s not a signal to retreat but an invitation to pause, reflect, and gather the insights necessary for our continued advancement.

Change becomes a powerful tool for personal and professional development. Change can challenge us to cultivate resilience, the ability to bounce back from adversity with newfound strength. Resilience is not only about weathering the storm but also about learning how to dance in the rain. Each stumble is a chance to hone this resilience, equipping us with the capacity to navigate future challenges with grace and determination.

Moreover, change provides the fertile ground for acquiring wisdom. The wisdom gained from identifying and dealing with change is a priceless asset on our journey. It’s the kind of wisdom that can’t be taught but must be experienced. This acquired wisdom becomes a compass, guiding us through the twists and turns of life’s intricate dance.

So…we need to view change as a stepping stone…a crucial phase in our journey that prepares us for the next chapter. The commitment to progress is not devoid of challenges; instead, it thrives on them. It’s a continuous loop of growth, where change isn’t a roadblock, but a catalyst for transformation. So, let us embrace change, for in doing so, we unlock the door to resilience, wisdom, and a richer, more fulfilling journey ahead.

    Step 2: Be Persistent
Persistence stands as the cornerstone for transforming setbacks into stepping stones, embodying the strength needed to navigate life’s challenges. It goes beyond mere endurance; it’s the unwavering commitment to bounce back from setbacks, not merely at the same level but with increased strength and determination.

When faced with obstacles, the first step is to take a moment for introspection and reflection on our inner strength. This introspective pause allows us to tap into the deep reservoirs of resilience within us. It’s an acknowledgment that within every single one of us lies a wellspring of perseverance waiting to be harnessed, especially in times of adversity.

Persistence comes when we start to understand that setbacks are detours rather than roadblocks. It is a transformative shift in perspective. Roadblocks imply a complete halt, a dead end. On the other hand, detours suggest alternative routes, different paths that may lead to unexpected yet valuable destinations. By recognizing setbacks as detours, one begins to see the hidden opportunities and lessons that may not have been evident on the original path. As we begin to see the possibilities that exist within chaos, we begin to understand that there is no reason to “stop”…and we begin to understand the need to press onward and upward.

In this context, persistence becomes a steadfast ally, guiding us through the twists and turns of life’s crazy pathway. It’s the force that keeps us moving forward, even when the path seems challenging or uncertain. This unwavering determination is a source of empowerment, propelling us through the darkest moments towards the light of progress.

The crazy twists and turns of life become navigable with persistence as our guiding force. Persistence instills a mindset that perceives challenges not as threats but as opportunities for growth, evolution, and the realization of your full potential.

Persistence is the compass that ensures we stay on course, helping us transform setbacks into success. As we persist through challenges, we cultivate a spirit of tenacity that has the potential to propel us forward…while inspiring others to embark on their own journeys with courage and determination.

    Step 3: Celebrate Small Wins
Small wins become big successes in the pursuit of personal and professional growth. Life is not a series of monumental leaps but a collection of small, purposeful steps that collectively define the journey. Acknowledging and commemorating each positive move, no matter how modest, is a practice that holds profound significance.

Recognizing that life is a series of steps underscores the idea that progress is a cumulative process. Every small win contributes to the larger narrative of your advancement. It’s akin to building a staircase, where each step, no matter how short, brings you closer to the summit. By valuing these incremental victories, you cultivate a sense of accomplishment and momentum that propels you forward.

The act of acknowledging achievements serves as a powerful tool for shaping a positive mindset. In a world often focused on the destination, celebrating small wins redirects attention to the journey. It reframes the narrative from a relentless pursuit of goals to an appreciation of the process. This positive mindset becomes a driving force, fostering resilience and perseverance during setbacks, as it emphasizes the progress made rather than fixating on challenges faced.

Furthermore, celebrating small wins acts as a feedback loop for motivation. The sense of accomplishment derived from acknowledging achievements fuels a desire for further progress. It creates a cycle where success begets motivation, which in turn begets more success. This positive reinforcement becomes a self-sustaining mechanism that propels you through the ups and downs of the journey.

Remember…in life…every step counts. The journey is not solely about reaching the destination but savoring the moments along the way. By celebrating every small win, we infuse significance into each step, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. It’s a reminder that life is not just about the final outcome but about the richness found in the process of growth, learning, and self-discovery. So, as we traverse down our own personal journey of life, remember to applaud our small victories—they are the stepping stones that pave the way to our ultimate success.

    Wisdom From The Word:
The concept of facing setbacks and persevering through challenges is echoed in various Biblical scriptures. One notable passage that aligns with the idea of progress despite setbacks is found in the New Testament, specifically in the book of Philippians.

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 3:13-14

This scripture encourages believers to focus on the future, letting go of past setbacks, and pressing on toward the ultimate goal. It emphasizes the idea that despite challenges or perceived setbacks, the journey continues, and there is a greater purpose to strive for.

    Bottom Line Y’all…
Life is an awesome journey of progress AND setbacks, a beautiful balance that shapes our journey. By embracing the concept that “Three Steps Forward And Two Steps Back Still Equals One Step Forward,” we empower ourselves to turn setbacks into stepping stones for growth. Embrace change, build resilience, celebrate progress, and dance through life with a renewed sense of purpose. In this dance, every step, forward or back, is a move towards a more empowered and fulfilling life. Keep dancing, and remember, progress is always within reach!
