  • Free Will Versus Anxiety

    Free Will Versus Anxiety

My quiet time with God this morning was spent focusing on the blessing God has given us through the incredible gift of free will. Specifically as it relates to anxiety. Something we’ve all struggled with at one time or another. Applying free will to situations that cause anxiety means we are free to choose how we feel and react in these situations. In other words…we’re in control of our feelings… the situation isn’t in control. We must not give anxiety (the fear of the unknown) that kind of control!

Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matt. 6:25-26)

The Greek word for “anxious” in this passage means “distracted.” It refers to uncertainty, that unsettling feeling (or worry) of not knowing what’s next. Many people live their lives in this state of worry, believing there’s no other way to exist but in fear and doubt. They literally worry themselves to death.

If this sounds familiar, I urge you to read the passage again. Jesus’ words aren’t merely suggestions; they’re commands. Anxiety isn’t something that’s automatically created by our circumstances. It’s our response to those circumstances that gives birth to anxiety.

Remember, our ability to choose is a divine gift of free will. We can choose how we feel, how we react, and what we focus on. God doesn’t want us to be anxious; He allows us to experience various situations to strengthen our faith in Him. He wants us to trust and obey Him, knowing that He has our best interests at heart and will bless us abundantly.

When we face challenging circumstances, we have a choice. We can either fall into patterns of worry and fear, or we can trust that God has a plan for our lives. We can focus on His promises and believe that He will deliver us from anxiety before it even begins to take hold.

Choosing to trust in God over succumbing to anxiety isn’t easy, but it’s a powerful step in personal development and spiritual growth. By consciously deciding to trust in God’s plan, we can live a life free from the chains of worry and filled with peace and confidence in His provision.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

The next time you find yourself on the brink of anxiety, remember that you have the power to choose. Choose faith over fear. Choose trust over doubt. Choose to believe that God is in control and that He will see you through every challenge. Embrace the freedom that comes from trusting in God’s plan for your life and experience the peace that surpasses all understanding.

  • A Successful Life Requires A Skillful Knife: Cut Out The Crap

A Successful Life Requires A Skillful Knife: Cut Out The Crap

We live in a crazy fast paced world filled with distractions and detours. So, achieving success in life requires more than just ambition and hard work. It demands a skillful knife… the ability to carve out the crap that holds us back. Just as a sharp knife carves away excess to reveal a masterpiece, so must we intentionally and skillfully eliminate the obstacles that hinder our growth.

    The Power of Precision

Success doesn’t happen by accident. It requires precision, focus, and a commitment to excellence. In other words, we need to be intentional with our actions, words, and even our thoughts. Like a surgeon wielding a scalpel, we must intentionally identify and remove the toxic elements in our lives that prevent us from reaching our full potential. Whether it’s unhealthy relationships, negative self-talk, or unproductive habits, cutting out the crap is essential.

    Identify the Crap

Here are some common areas that might require your attention and need to be carved out:

    1. Negative Influences: Surrounding yourself with people who drain your energy or undermine your goals can be detrimental. Cut out the naysayers and surround yourself with those who uplift and support you.

    2. Procrastination: This is a HUGE struggle bus for me! Delaying tasks only adds to your stress and hinders progress. Use your skillful knife to slice through procrastination and prioritize action.

    3. Clutter and Disorganization: A cluttered space often leads to a cluttered mind. Simplify your environment to create a clear and focused mindset.

    4. Unhealthy Habits: Whether it’s poor diet choices, lack of exercise, or insufficient sleep, these habits can derail your journey to success. Commit to a healthier lifestyle and cut out the detrimental behaviors.

    Intentionally (Skillfully) Use The knife

We have to be intentional about carving the crap out of our lives, which requires us to live intentionally. Intentional living is about making deliberate choices that align with your values and goals. It’s about saying no to what’s unnecessary so you can say yes to what truly matters. A successful life requires us to be intentional about how we spend our time, energy, and resources.

    1. Set Clear Goals: Define what success looks like for you. Whether it’s advancing in your career, improving your health, or nurturing your relationships, having clear goals gives you direction and purpose.

    2. Prioritize Self-Care: Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential. Cut out the things that drain you and invest in activities that rejuvenate and energize you.

    3. Practice Mindfulness: Being present in the moment helps you make better decisions and appreciate the journey. Mindfulness allows you to cut through the noise and focus on what’s truly important.

    Wisdom From The Word

The Bible tells us in Hebrews 12:1:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

I love this verse! It emphasizes the importance of removing obstacles and distractions from our life in order to pursue our goals, milestones, and most importantly…God’s plans, with determination and focus.

When we carve out the stumbling blocks and focus on joining God where He’s working, we’re left with a detailed plan for success. Note, It may not look like success as defined by the world’s standards. The success achieved with, and through God, far outweighs any success the world could offer.

    Embrace the Journey

Cutting out the crap isn’t a one-time event; it’s an ongoing process. As you grow and evolve, new challenges and distractions will arise. Stay vigilant and committed to your path. Remember, a successful life requires a skillful knife, and with each cut, you get closer to becoming the best version of yourself.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

As we strive for a successful life, we must “wield our knives” with skill and precision. By cutting out the crap – the negative influences, unproductive habits, and distractions – we create space for growth, achievement, and fulfillment. Embrace the power of intentional living and watch as your life transforms into the masterpiece you were always meant to create. Stay focused, stay committed, and remember: a successful life requires a skillful knife.

  • Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

    Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

This morning during my quiet time with God, “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself”, definitely a familiar piece of scripture, resonated with me in a new and profound way. Mark 12:29-31 says, “Jesus answered, The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” These words from Jesus have always guided my actions toward others, from more a standpoint of “treat others as I want to be treated”. However, this morning, I felt a deeper understanding of “loving your neighbor as yourself” that I had not fully appreciated before.

The Revelation: How Can We Care For Others If We Can’t Even Take Care Of Ourselves

It struck me that if we are not taking care of ourselves—physically, mentally, and spiritually—how can we begin to care for those whom God has entrusted to us? This realization underscored the importance of treating ourselves with dignity, honor, grace, and above all, as children of God. This comprehensive self-care is not selfish but rather a fundamental aspect of our ability to love others effectively.

    Physical Well-Being

First, we must be mindful of how we treat our bodies and what we put into our bodies. As 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. The last thing we want is to have the Holy Spirit living in a temple that’s all shabby, rundown, and antiquated. Maintaining a regimen of physical fitness is crucial. Exercise gives us the strength and stamina needed to serve ourselves and others. Nourishing our bodies with healthy foods, staying hydrated, and avoiding harmful substances like drugs and excessive alcohol helps us feel better, get the fuel we need daily, and helps prolong our life which in ensures that we have the energy and vitality needed to serve others.

Additionally, rest is crucial. God Himself instituted the Sabbath as a time for rest and renewal (Exodus 20:8-11). Ensuring we get adequate sleep and taking breaks to rejuvenate helps us maintain our physical and mental health, preparing us to serve others without burning out.

    Mental and Emotional Health

Proverbs 4:23 teaches, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” This involves protecting our minds from negative, self-harming thoughts and societal pressures that distort our self-image. Focusing on the good that is around us (yes…it’s there) and surrounding ourselves with people who lift us up and are positive influences can help us maintain a healthy mindset.

Practicing forgiveness with ourselves is equally important. When we extend the grace and patience to ourselves that God shows us (daily), we can better navigate life’s challenges. This self-compassion equips us to empathize and support others in their struggles.

    Spiritual Growth

Our spiritual well-being is the foundation of loving others as ourselves. Maintaining a strong relationship with God through prayer and Bible study deepens our understanding of His love and guidance (Joshua 1:8). This connection with God empowers us to reflect His love in our interactions with others.

Furthermore, being a part of a community of fellow believers provides the support and accountability needed for spiritual growth (Hebrews 10:24-25). Building relationships with other Christians allows us to share our journey, find accountability, have a support group to lean on, learn from others, and grow together in faith.

Loving Others As We Love Ourselves

As we begin to treat ourselves with the care and love outlined above, our ability to love others will naturally improve. How? Glad you asked:

    Empathy and Compassion

Understanding and addressing our own needs makes us more empathetic toward others. When we recognize our own struggles and triumphs, we can better relate to and support those facing similar situations.

    Service and Sacrifice

Jesus modeled servanthood and sacrifice (John 13:14-15). By caring for ourselves, we ensure we are physically, mentally, and spiritually equipped to serve others selflessly and effectively.

    Setting Boundaries

Loving ourselves includes setting boundaries to protect our well-being. This allows us to serve others without compromising our health, ensuring sustainable and genuine care.

    Practical Steps for “Loving Ourselves”

To integrate this whole idea of “loving ourselves” into our daily life, let’s consider the following steps:

    Physical Care

    – Eat a balanced, nutrient-rich diet.

    – Exercise regularly to maintain physical health.

    – Prioritize adequate sleep and rest.

    Mental and Emotional Care

    – Practice mindfulness and stress-reducing techniques.

    – Engage in positive self-talk and affirmations.

    – Seek professional help if needed, such as counseling or therapy.

    Spiritual Care

    – Dedicate time daily for prayer and meditation on God’s Word.

    – Surround yourself with fellow Christians for support and growth.

    – Engage in acts of worship and service that align with your Christian walk.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

This morning’s revelation about loving my neighbor as myself has been a blessing as it relates to intentional “self-care”. It’s not merely about treating others well but also about nurturing ourselves in ways that honor God. By taking care of our physical, mental, and spiritual health, we prepare ourselves to love others more effectively. This Christ centered approach ensures that our care for others is rooted in a healthy, balanced, and spiritually enriched life, enabling us “love others as we love ourselves” as Jesus intended.

  • More God! Less Worry!

    More God! Less Worry!

It’s real easy to fall into the “Worry Trap.” We find ourselves worrying about our job, our kids, our finances, and even trivial things like what shoes look best with our outfit. But the hard truth is that worrying about these things… or anything, for that matter… doesn’t bring value to our lives. It doesn’t help us keep moving forward or become the better version of ourselves that God wants us to be to fulfill His plans.

In Matthew 6:27, Jesus asks, “Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” The answer is, of course, “No.” Worrying doesn’t extend our lives; in fact, it does the opposite. Research suggests that worrying is detrimental to both our physical and mental health. When we worry, we’re actually subtracting time from our lives.

    More God…Less Worry

So, what can we do? It’s time to start getting rid of the things that cause us to worry. Purge your life of stress, anxiety, and depression—all side effects of worrying—and replace them with God. This means praying more and gossiping less. Read the Bible more and the news less. Spend more time with Godly folks and less time with toxic people. Trust God more and ourselves less.

When we make God the Lord of ALL areas of our lives, we begin to see Him taking care of our fears, doubts, and worries. When we bring our worries to Him, seek His guidance on how to rid ourselves of the worries, and trust that He will see us through our worries, we can begin find peace… and clarity. Instead of allowing worry to dominate our thoughts, let’s focus on building a stronger relationship with God. It’s a life shift that can truly transform our lives, bringing us closer to the divine purpose He has for each of us.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

I encourage you to embrace Jesus’ words from Matthew 6:27 and break free from the worry trap. Trust in God’s plan, knowing that He is in control and will guide us through every challenge. By doing so, we can live fuller, healthier, and more faith filled and enriched lives.

  • Become An EXPERT: Unleash The Potential Of Others

Become An EXPERT: Unleash The Potential Of Others

    Howdy Y’all,

Today I want to focus on the importance of finding something you’re passionate about and becoming an expert in that area. Whether it’s a hobby, a skill, or a subject that excites you, dive deep, master it, and never stop improving. Once you’ve honed your expertise, share your knowledge with others. Our talents are not meant to be kept to ourselves; they are meant to inspire and help others grow.

    Google Drawings Expert…Hello!

Let me share my story of how I became an “expert”. My area of expertise has to do with digital art, BUT specifically as it relates to an online platform called Google Drawings.

Eleven years ago, I was asked to teach graphic design to high school students in East Austin. At the time, the school where I taught couldn’t afford industry-standard tools like Photoshop or Illustrator, so I had to think outside the box. I had previously learned some basic design skills using Microsoft Publisher, but unfortunately, our computer lab didn’t have Publisher. However, it did have PowerPoint. Recognizing that PowerPoint had similar design tools, I made it my go-to design software. For years, I taught my students how to create fun and eventually detailed graphic designs as well as animations using PowerPoint.

A few years later, I took a job in Hutto, Texas, teaching Graphic Design, Web Business (where I polished and honed the Student Like A Boss curriculum), and Technology Applications. The new challenge was that the students’ computers didn’t have PowerPoint. However, each student had a Google account for Google Classroom and email. I started exploring ways to transfer the design techniques, strategies, and processes I used in PowerPoint to Google Slides, Google’s version of PowerPoint. This worked well for about two years.

Then, seven years ago, I discovered Google Drawings. Initially created for diagramming and basic design scenarios, I quickly realized that Google Drawings was just as effective for graphic design as PowerPoint. Plus, since it was part of the Google Suite, everything created on the platform could be saved to the students’ Google Drive and easily shared with me for grading—a true win-win!

Over the past seven years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into mastering Google Drawings. My goal has always been to provide students (and their families) with a free, accessible platform to create amazing digital art. I’ve made it a priority to master Google Drawings so that I can continue to pass along my knowledge of graphic design and print-on-demand strategies, empowering students and their families to achieve their creative and entrepreneurial goals.

Many people dismiss Google Drawings as too simplistic for serious graphic design. However, through dedication, exploration, and creativity, I’ve demonstrated that it can rival leading design platforms. Google Drawings is versatile, powerful, and most importantly, FREE. It’s accessible to everyone and easy to learn, making it an excellent tool for aspiring artists and designers.

Despite the skepticism and ridicule, I’ve proven that Google Drawings can produce professional-quality digital art. Over the years, I’ve leveraged its foundational features to create intricate, stunning designs. My students, equipped with this knowledge, often produce work that surpasses those created with more expensive tools like Adobe Creative Cloud (Express) and Canva.

The most rewarding part of this journey has been witnessing the growth and success of my students. High school teachers frequently tell me that my students, using Google Drawings, create superior graphics compared to those using Adobe. This feedback highlights the power of Google Drawings and the effectiveness of our teaching methods.

Former students often reach out to share their ongoing successes, telling me how their design skills and online business have flourished since they started learning with Google Drawings in middle school. My students have gone on to become proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and other platforms. They gained foundational knowledge of the graphic design process on Google Drawings…and then they spread their wings and flew. Some of my students have even gone on to get degrees in Graphic Design and Visual Arts. These stories showcase not only the resilience and creativity of my students but also the importance of someone becoming an expert…and then sharing their wealth of knowledge..

Personal Benefits Of Being An Expert

Becoming an expert in any field offers a myriad of benefits that can significantly enhance both personal and professional aspects of life. Expertise brings a profound sense of confidence and mastery, enabling you to tackle challenges with ease and inspire others with your knowledge. It opens up opportunities for career advancement, as specialized skills are highly valued and often lead to greater job security and higher earning potential.

Moreover, becoming an expert fosters a deeper passion and commitment to continuous learning, ensuring you stay ahead in an ever-evolving landscape. Sharing your expertise with others not only solidifies your own understanding but also allows you to make a meaningful impact on your community, contributing to a cycle of knowledge and growth.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

By dedicating time and effort to mastering a particular skill, we unlock a wealth of personal and professional benefits, from increased confidence and career opportunities to a profound sense of fulfillment and the ability to inspire and educate others. As we see with my mastery of Google Drawings, becoming an expert not only elevates our own capabilities but also empowers us to make a lasting impact on those around us.

So, find your passion, become an expert, and share your knowledge. In doing so, you will not only grow personally but also inspire others on their journeys.

Move Forward! Don’t Suck! Every Day!

  • Reframing Failure: 3 Strategies to Embrace Life’s Learning Curve

Reframing Failure: 3 Strategies to Embrace Life’s Learning Curve

The process of dealing with failure is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. Why? Well…first off…I fail..a lot! That is just a part of life when you’ve got ADHD and you’ve got an entrepreneurial mindset. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, because as a teacher, I see how not being able to cope with daily trials negatively impacts our kids…which in turn, impacts society. Something has happened to our youth over the course of the past few years that is a growing concern for me, other educators, and should be for parents too. Students are not able to handle failure. At the first signs of failure, students go into a rampage, or totally shutdown and withdraw into themselves and cut everybody (including teachers and parent) off.

Students today, and many adults, don’t understand that failure is not a sign of defeat; it’s a testament to our willingness to try. Each stumble, setback, or disappointment is not a mark of our inadequacy but an opportunity for growth.

So how can we (and our children) learn to cope with failure? Glad you asked! Here are some practical steps that I’ve incorporated into my life over the past 53 years to put failure in its rightful place so that we can focus on achieving our milestones and goals as we journey towards the vision we have for lives.

Understand That Failure is an Event, Not a Destiny:

It’s easy to let one misstep overshadow our entire existence. But in reality, failure is merely a moment in time, not a lifelong sentence. Every successful individual has encountered failure on their path to greatness. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, focus on the lessons learned. Treat failure as a stepping stone towards improvement rather than a roadblock to success. By dissecting the experience, we gain valuable insights that propel us forward.

Zoom Out and Appreciate the Big Picture:

When failure strikes, it’s crucial to zoom out and gain perspective. Yes, that business venture may have flopped, the romantic date may have turned into a fiasco, and 3 minutes into the job interview everything went to turdsville… but you’re healthy, your family loves you, and all you friends love your homemade pizza! By acknowledging the abundance in our lives, we diminish the power of failure to dictate our self-worth. Embrace gratitude for the countless blessings and remember that failure is just one chapter in the grand narrative of life.

Ignore the Naysayers and Embrace Your Resilience:

Society often dictates that failure is synonymous with shame or incompetence. But who are we living for? We have to start rejecting the noise of external judgment and embrace our intrinsic worth. You possess the resilience, intelligence, and resourcefulness to overcome any challenge. Don’t let the opinions of others overshadow your inner strength. Remember, God doesn’t make mistakes…and he made you. Trust in your abilities, stay true to your vision, and let your resilience shine through.

    Wisdom From The Word

For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes. ~ Proverbs 24:16

This verse speaks to the resilience of the righteous and emphasizes that setbacks and failures are not the end but opportunities for renewal and growth. Here, God let’s us know that everyone experiences failure, but we have ability to rise again, refusing to be defeated by adversity. This passage encourages us to persevere in the face of failure, knowing that with determination and faith, we can overcome any obstacle and continue moving forward on our journey.

    Bottom Line Y’all…

Failure is not the measure of our worth but a catalyst for growth. By reframing failure as a temporary setback, appreciating the abundance in our lives, and rejecting external judgment, we reclaim our power to live boldly and authentically. Embrace failure as a teacher, not a tormentor, and watch how it transforms your journey towards success and fulfillment.

  • Don’t try to put a period where God places a comma! He is still writing your story…and it’s gonna be AMAZING!

Don’t try to put a period where God places a comma! He is still writing your story…and it’s gonna be AMAZING!

Life’s journey is a rollercoaster ride…am I right or am I right? Sometimes it feels like we’re soaring high, and other times, we’re plunged into the depths of uncertainty. But through it all, I’ve learned one thing: God’s writing my story, and it’s going to be beyond amazing.

There have been moments when I’ve wanted to slam the book shut, to put a period where God clearly intended a comma. But each time I tried, I realized that His plan for me is far greater than anything I could ever imagine.

Maybe you’re in a similar place, facing challenges or feeling like you’ve hit a dead end. Trust me, I’ve been there too. But I’ve come to realize that those moments aren’t the end of the story—they’re just a pause, a comma waiting to unfold into something beautiful.

    Wisdom From The Word

”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.“. ~Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭11‬

When I look back on my life, I see how every twist, every turn, every triumph, and every trial has shaped me into the person I am today. And I wouldn’t change a single page of my story, because each one has led me closer to God’s purpose for my life.

    Bottom line Y’all…

If you’re feeling stuck or lost, take heart. God is still writing your story, and He’s not finished with you yet. Embrace the journey, knowing that He is with you every step of the way. Trust in His timing, His plan, and His promise that your story is going to be AMAZING.
