That’s the vision behind Student Like A Boss, born from years of teaching digital art and graphic design to students from all walks of life. We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of giving kids the tools to express themselves and share their creations with the world. In a nutshell, students learn digital art skills, then we teach them how to start an online store (with mom and dad’s help) where they can sell their artwork on various merchandise like shirts, hoodies, phone cases, clocks, socks, backpacks..and so much more!
I’ve been working on this curriculum in my classroom for years. From time to time I’ve started to offer it to families…but I’ve always stopped short…thinking it isn’t good enough. BUT…I’ve seen so much success in the classroom with my students and their online stores…that I have to share it with the world. I began to offer the lessons on Teachers Pay Teachers (an online platform where teachers can offer their curriculum and classroom resources to other educators) and much to my surprise…the lessons started selling.
So…for a fee of $39 a month, member families can unlock a treasure trove of over 120 digital art lessons and tutorials, empowering their children (and parents) to explore, create, and dream big. So…this one started years ago when I used to make (and still do) my own bulletin board letters and numbers sets for my classroom. Teachers started seeing my sets and asked if I could make some custom sets for them. As we journey down the path of entrepreneurship, we constantly look to God for guidance. We understand that if He’s not involved in our endeavors, that they have no chance of succeeding. One piece of scripture that I’ve focused on is Ecclesiastes 11:6 which reads:
“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.”
God hits home by encouraging us to take initiative, invest effort, and embrace uncertainty in our entrepreneurial ventures. Just as a farmer sows seeds in the morning without knowing which will flourish, we embark on these entrepreneurial journeys, putting our energy and dedication into each endeavor, not knowing what will happen…but embracing the excitement of “what can be”. We understand that not every venture may yield the same level of success, but we remain committed to working diligently and allowing God to guide us in our endeavors.
